Injured man medevaced off the Scillies
On Nov 4, 2011, a fisherman of the "Nova Spero" with an injury to his hand was rescued by the volunteer crew of the St Mary's RNLI lifeboat "Whiteheads" just before dawn. The crew launched the Severn Class lifeboat at 5.16 a.m. and headed to a position 15-miles west of the Isles of Scilly where the "Nova Spero" waited to transfer the injured crew member to the lifeboat. The "Whiteheads" arrived on the scene at 6.15 a.m. and the transfer of the casualty quickly took place despite the awkward swell. It was felt expedient to get the injured man to hospital in Truro, Cornwall, and helicopter Rescue 193 was scrambled from RNAS Culdrose to lift the injured fisherman from the lifeboat and fly him to the mainland. The lifeboat then returned to St Mary's harbour. Report with video: http://www.rnli.org.uk/who_we_are/press_centre/videos/video_detail?articleid=732976&category=-1®ion=-1&mediatype=video&listing=
