Containerships PLC announced earlier today that the Company is now part of the CMA CGM Group, one of the world leading container shipping companies, as per the acquisition process that has been initiated in June this year.
Fire in Gulf of Finland
In the Gulf of Finland a fire broke out aboard the "Containerships VII" in the morning of Oct 7, 2017. The vessel was enroute from St. Petersburg to Helsinki. The fire began to burn in a generator in the engine room. The crew quickly got the fire under control. No one was injured in the fire and it caused no environmental damage. The vessel was now anchored off the island of Seitskär in the eastern Gulf of Finland, and the crew was investigating whether the ship was able to continue to Helsinki with own power. It raised anchor five hours after the fire incident and berthed at the Multi-Link Container Terminal in Helsinki at 5.20 p.m.
Sailor severely injured off Rügen
On Jan 23, 2016, at 11.45 p.m. a Finnish crew member of the "Containerships VII" fell down a stair aboard the ship off Rügen. The 32-year old man suffered severe head injuries. He was medevaced by the lifeboat "Harro Koebke" of the DGzRS-station Sassnitz which was dispatched to the ship with an emergency medical on board. Both ships met five miles NE of Cape Arkona. The victim was stabilized and transferred onto the lifeboat on a vacuum stretcher. In Sassnitz an ambulance took over on Jan 24 at 2.45 a.m. and took him to hospital.
