Tank barge destroyed gate of Spree lock

On Mar 22, 2014, the "Nordwind" whilst coming from Treptow allided with a gate of the Mühlendamm lock on the Spree in Berlin. At 7.20 a.m. the ship could not be stopped off the lock due to a technival malfunction. The tank barge continued towards the closed southern lock and completely destroyed the gate. The bow of the ship was breached. The tanks remained intact, but the damage was thought to be significant. The ship had to berth for inspections. Ship traffic on the Spree was hampered with only one lock left. Repair works will take some weeks.
