Ferry assisted disabled fishing vessel

Mon Aug 17 11:21:29 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'Nordlys' with more than 100 passengers on board came to the rescue of a fishing vessel with a crew of two on board, which had suffered an engine failure off Kvænangen in the night of Aug 15, 2020, and was adrift amid stormy weather and rough seas. The ferry diverted to the position outside Kvænangen in North Troms after being contacted by the Main Rescue Center on the coastal radio. They kept the boat under control until the Coast Guard took over. Norwegian report with photos: https://www.vg.no/nyheter/innenriks/i/70X0wV/sjark-fikk-motorstopp-ble-reddet-av-hurtigruteskip

Ferry crew rescued distressed fishermen

Fri Jan 17 11:50:38 CET 2020 Timsen

On Jan 17, 2020, at 7.10 Ua.m. a fishing vessel ran aground on rocks in Refnesoddden in West-Finnmark enroute from Kokelv in Finnmark to Hammerfest. It got stuck SW of Havøysund in Måsøy. The crew of two called 110, and soon after a mayday relay was issued by the JRCC. A Sea King-helicopter of the base in Hanak, the ‘Nordlys‘ the passenger m/v ‘Årøy‘ (IMO: 9753806) and the NSSR-lifeboat‘Odin‘ (MMSI: 258280500), of the station Havøysund attended. The 'Nordlys' deployed an MOB boat which safely took the two fishermen off and transferred them aboard the ferry which took them to Havøysund. On scene was a slight breeze and a temperature of -4 Grad Celsius. The casualty was stable on the rocks after the tide dropped. The lifeboat was due to return at 6 p.m. and try to pull the grounded vessel off.
