Fregate and boxship in collision in Kiel Canal

The "Nordic Bremen" was in collision with the German fregate "Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" in the Kiel Canal at Schülp on Dec 9, 2015, at 3.44 a.m. The main deck of the navy ship was torn open on a length of four meters. The ship berthed in Brunsbüttel at 9.30 a.m. for inspections. Aboard the container ship several containers were damaged, the ship berthed in the East Shore Port in Kiel at 7 a.m. It had been enroute from Rotterdam to Helsinki. The accident was caused by a wind gust which pushed the fregate, which was waiting for the boxship to pass, against it in spite of the assistance of tugs. She was underway from a manoever in the Baltic Sea to its base in Wilhelmshaven and left Brunsbüttel at 6 p.m. The "Nordic Bremen" resumed the voyage at 7 p.m. after the damaged containers were unloaded, with an ETA in Helsinki as of Dec 11, 9 a.m. now.
