Nordic Spirits broke its moorings
The "Nordic Spirit" broke her moorings in high winds on May 17, 2011 while docked at Northumberland Quay in North Shields. She began to drift on the Tyne towards South Shields after she broke free at about 11.30 a.m. Gale force winds caused the ropes to snap and her stern came away from the quay. Both anchors were dropped. Port of Tyne marine staff and four tugs brought the vessel under control within 20 minutes, and the ship was anchored just past the piers in the morning of May 18, waiting to be brought back to be berthed.
