Collision at Steenbank

Sun Jan 21 14:48:07 CET 2018 Timsen

On Jan 21, 2018, at 4.25 a.m. the Dutch pilot boat "Pollux" was in collision with the "Nord Taurus" at the Northern Steenbank anchorage off the Dutch coast. The "Nord Taurus" had just dropped off its pilot and sailed with about ten knots, intending to pass the pilot vessel of the Dutch Pilotage Service which was lying north of Westkapelle, at , to the left. But it went wrong, and the "Nord Taurus" hit the "Pollux" with the bow. In spite of significant damage the pilot boat managed to return to Flushing with own power and was berthed in the outer port on Jan 21 at 1.45 p.m. No injuries reported. The "Nord Taurus" had sailed from Terneuzen on Jan 20 at 11.30 p.m., headed to Murmansk, ETA Jan 27. The "Polaris" relieved the "Pollux" which will have to get its dented hull and wheelhouse repaired at a yard.
