Number of victims increased to three

Tue Jun 13 08:51:31 CEST 2017 Timsen

The number of death has increased to three after the explosion on board the Odebrecht Oil & Gas (OOG) drillship "Norbe VIII" while operating in the Marlim field for Petrobras in the Campos basin on June 9. The 33 year old OOG worker Eduardo Aragao de Lima passed away on June 11 from injuries sustained in the blast. The 29 year old Ericson Nascimento de Farias and 44-year-old Jorge Luiz Damiao, both employees of services provider IMI, died on June 9 and 10, respectively. The explosion, which occurred around 8:00 a.m. in one of the rig's boilers, injured one other worker. Identified as Fernando Garcia, he was cleared from the hospital on Saturday. There was no subsequent fire after the blast, and the emergency plan was triggered immediately after the explosion. Activities on the rig remained shut. The drillship, one of six rigs OOG has on charter with Petrobras, was in safe condition. It has been contracted for a 10-year period with Petrobras, until July 2021, for a dayrate of $381,000. Petrobras will investigate the causes of the accident. Sindipetro-NF claims the accident ocurred during maintenance operations at the boiler.
