Ferry assisted sinking pleasure boat
A pleasure boat was threatened to sink early on June 21, 2017, off Sykkylven. The "Norangsfjord" was close by and made sure that the situation could be resolved. The police was notified at 12.42 a.m. that a 42-foot leisure boat had begun to take in water and that the crew of two was afraid that the boat could sink. The couple on board was out on trial when a leakage occurred in the engine compartment. The ferry captain Ingmund Eliassen was alerted via Florø Radio between Sykkylven and Magerholm. At 01.36 a.m. both ferry and pleasure boat were at the Sykkylvs side of the Stor Fjord, and the situation was under control. The ferry took the boat in tow towards the ferry dock in Aursneset where firefighters attended with dewatering pumps. The rescue company also helped in the action and early on June 21 the boat was back on Sula side of the fjord, where the owners were living. A possible reason for the water ingress may have been that one or more snakes started leaking.
