Ferry repaired due to engine trouble
The "Noord Nederland", 361 gt (IMO: 9269611), encountered problems with the engines and had to be taken out of the Harlingen-Terschelling service and pulled on a slip in Harlingen on Aug 14, 2017. Technicians started to repair two engines on Aug 16, which was enough to get the ship sailing on Aug 17. From Aug 19 to 21, the third engine was repaired. The fourth engine must be completely replaced by another one manufactured in Germany. Freight for Vlieland and Terschelling was transported with another ship during the repair. Freight catamaran conversion at Damen Shiprepair Harlingen
Rederij Doeksen have contracted Damen Shiprepair Harlingen to carry out the conversion of their 47.15-metre long freight catamaran Noord-Nederland. The conversion work will provide Rederij Doeksen with increased capacity to manage seasonal fluctuations in freight demands. Rederij Doeksen operates a fleet of passenger ferries that run services between the Dutch mainland and the picturesque Wadden Sea islands of Terschelling and Vlieland. Fire in engine room contained
In the morning of Aug 20, 2016, a fire broke out aboard the "Noord Nederland" 361 gt (IMO: 9269611), off the port of Terschelling. The emergency services were alerted after smoke development was remarked in the engine room. One engine was shut off. The KNRM stations Terschelling and Vlieland dispatched the lifeboat "Arie Visser". Also the fire brigade of West Terschelling attended. The catamaran Ferry was escorted into port by units of the KNRM and Noordgat There was a crew of two on board and was carrying vehicles. At 11:05 a.m. the smoke development was brought under control by the fire department.It was found out that the affected engine had overheated. The ship sailed to the car ramp in the port of Terschelling.
