Increased sulfur content of diesel fuel found during control in Bremerhaven
The "Nomadic Hjellestad", after its arrival from Riga, was subject of an environmental control by several officials of the Water Police Inspectorate of the police Bremen in Bremerhaven on Mar 7, 2013. During the control they remarked an increased sulfur content of diesel used for auxiliary generators. The value was just over 0.3%. Allowed in the EU waters are only 0.1%. while outside of Europe gas oil with a sulfur content of about 0.4% can still be obtained. Since no other fuel was on board the vessel, it had to take bunker in Bremerhaven. An offense was launched against the captain for a violation of the Bremen port regulations. He had to pay a security deposit of 1100 Euro. The ship left the port the same day bound for Las Palmas with an ETA of Mar 13.
