Helicopter crashed underway to Maersk Reslient rig
On May 9, 2012, a helicopter en route from Aberdeen on its flight to the "Maersk Resilient" and the rig "ENSCO 102" crashed into the sea in a controlled glitch about 45 kilometers east of Aberdeen at 1.15 p.m. All 14 people on board were able to board a life raft. They were picked up and flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary hospital, where they arrived about 2.45. p.m. They were hospitalized for observation. The helicopter that crashed was a Bond-type EC-225 Super Puma. The cause of the crash was not yet clear. The rescue operation was coordinated by the Aberdeen Coastguard. Other helicopter companies operating out of Aberdeen have suspended all flights at the moment.
