Five crew members exposed to radiation
The "Nordkapp" on Sep 4, 2012, was back to normal operation after the vessel was taken out of service on Sep 3 due to radiation. The ship has been survyed by both medical and technical experts in the meantime and the decision was taken to return to normal service. Five of the crew have probably been exposed to radiation from a radar facility on the USS "Farragut" in connection with the exercise Northern Eagle on Aug 24. One of them was taken to hospital and four others sent to the emergency but were back on the ship on Sep 3. The man who was admitted to hospital is now on sick leave. What exactly has happened was not yet clear. The incident was investigated by a commission appointed by the operational headquarters.
