Collision on the Weser

Sun Aug 27 15:12:13 CEST 2017 Timsen

On Aug 24, 2017, at 5.02 a,m. the Gernan river ferry 8"Juliusplate“ (MMSI-No.: 211230650) was in collision with the "Stellar Atlantic“ on the Weser. The ferry was coming from the ferry pt. in Berne and slammed into the bulkcarrier which was coming from Bremen bound to Iskenderun due to a fault of the captain of the "Juliusplate". No one was injured, the damage was in a fifth-digit range. The "Juliusplate“ hit the bulkcarrier with the ramp and caused a breach in the hull and scratches. The ship berthed at the wMSC-Gate in Bremerhaven after the collision. The „Juliusplate“ lost the bow ramp, which was submerged in the river. The sounding vessel "Zenit“ and the dredger ship „Harriersand“ started a search for the 8,5x3,5 meter ramp which was without success until Aug 25. The "Juliusplate“ entered the Fassmer-Yard for repairs which were expected to last two weeks. The ferry "Rönnebeck“ and the Blumenthal-Motzen ferry „Stedingen“ tried to compensate the loss of the ship in the meantime.
