Disabled ship taken in tow off Kythira

The Nimet" suffered engine failure in the evening of Sep 23, 2016 and went adrift southeast of Kythira island in the Sea of Crete. A tug was sent, which took the container ship on tow, and towed her to the Neapoli Voion anchorage, Laconi to fix the problem and undergo a survey. In the early morning of Sep 25 it was moored at the Vatika Bay Terminal. The ship was en route from Las Palmas to Samsun.

Cargo ship to return stowaways to home country

The Spanish police arrested four African stowaways in Las Palmas port on Apr 14, 2016, when they were trying to get into the city. They were taken back to the "Nimet" which had come to port from Nouadhibou, where the stowaways had boarded the vessel. The vessel was tasked with returning them back to Mauritania. It is deployed on a service route with regular calls at Mauritanian ports.
