Woman fell over board
A person has fallen overboard the 'Nikolaos' in the Gozo Channel Ferry on Aug 12, 2021. At around 7.15 p.m., the police was informed that a woman had ended up in the sea between Malta and Gozo. She was retrieved from the water and taken back to shore by a Transport Malta boat, police told Lovin Malta. She was dropped off for medical assistance in Ċirkewwa before being taken to Mater Dei for further medical observation. It was yet unknown what led to her fall.
Gozo Channel’s chartered NIKOLAOS to stay in Malta
The fourth vessel on Malta’s Gozo Channel ferry service, the Greek-owned NIKOLAOS, which links Malta with the island of Gozo, will stay on charter longer than her initial six months until a newbuilding replacement is built, said Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana.
Anchor chain got wrapped around propeller
While the "Nikolaos" was lifting its port side anchor, the chain entangled in the port propeller on Sep 12, 2018, upon the deparure from Corfu to Kerkyra, Igoumenitsa. The vessel remained at Corfu, waiting for repairs and the class inspection in the afternoon. It had on board 268 passengers and their vehicles. They were safely disembarked and transported to Igoumenitsa by another vessel.
