Situation aboard detained ship critical
The situation aboardthe 'Nika Fortune' which has been detained in Varna since Dec 6, 2018, for shipowner debts, was becoming critical. The owner, Nika Fortune Shipping SA, has not paid the 130,000 U.S. dollars owed to the Ukrainian and Russian crew on board. The vessel remains at anchor off the port, and the crew was forced to live in extremely difficult conditions. The vessel lacks even the most basic personal hygiene products. The shipowner had occasionally transferred small amounts of money to the Master for food, but since the start of the summer, the transfers have been suspended. It is only at the expense of the local port authorities that the vessel was being provided with water and electricity.
Crew waiting for wages in Varna despite owner's promise
The Russian-Ukrainian crew of the "Nika Fortune", which was promised to pay off wage arrears until Feb 9, 2019, has still not received its money. The crew’s debt exceeded 40,000 USD. The shipowner Tatyana Matvievskaya and charterer Denis Merkulov promised to pay off the debt and close the topic with debts until Feb 9, and the ship will go to the port of Rostov-on-Don for loading. On Feb 11 the vessel was still in the port of Varna, and only 5,000 euros for 14 months of work were transferred to the captain. Wage arrears were partially repaid to the senior mechanic and second mechanic.
