Barge grounded at Warden Point

Mon Sep 03 13:09:28 CEST 2018 Timsen

In the afternoon of Sep 1, 2018, the all-weather lifeboat from Sheerness was launched after a call from the UK Coastguard reported that the "Nieuwe Zorg" had run aground at Warden Point. The ALB located the craft, with three people on board, hard aground on the high-water line under the cliffs at Warden. All three persons on board were un-injured and happy to stay on board to wait for the next high tide. The ALB was released and returned to station at 6.45 p.m. On Sep 2 at 4.35 a.m. the all-weather lifeboat was requested to launch to assist the "Nieuwe Zorg" again. Once on the scene the Sheerness lifeboat was assisted by the Whitstable lifeboat crew, who had also been called, to attach a tow line to the heavy barge. With the tow line in place the Sheerness ALB was able to successfully tow and re-float the barge which fortunately had not suffered any damage during its grounding. With no damage sustained the barge was towed to a safe commercial mooring in Queenborough Harbour. The ALB returned to station at 7.35 a.m. Report with photo: https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2018/september/02/sheerness-rnli-lifeboats-called-six-times-in-less-than-12-hours
