Offshore ship recovered downed helicopter
A team of deep ocean salvage experts located and recovered a downed MH-60 Blackhawk that crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on Nov. 10, 2023, during routine training when it experienced an in-flight emergency resulting in the crash. Under the direction of Commander, Task Force (CTF) 68, the Navy embarked experts from Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), Phoenix International, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 8 (EODMU 8), and U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) aboard the 'NG Worker', and proceeded to the crash site on Dec. 8. Once on station, highly skilled operators located and recovered the aircraft using state-of-the-art underwater survey and recovery equipment mounted on the Deep Drone remote operated vehicle, a 4,100 pound ROV designed to meet the Navy’s mid-water salvage requirements to a maximum depth of 8,000 feet. Assigned to U.S. Army Special Operations Command, the MH-60 Blackhawk was carrying five special operations aviation Soldiers when it crashed. All Soldiers on board were killed. The remains of two Soldiers were recovered during initial search and recovery efforts. The remains of the three other Soldiers were recovered and will be flown to Dover Air force Base and returned to the families. The identities of the Soldiers recovered will be withheld pending notification to next of kin. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
Offshore vessel contracted for recovery of crashed Blackhawk
The U.S. Navy contracted the 'NG Worker' for search and recovery operations of an Army Blackhawk aircraft that crashed into the Mediterranean Sea, Nov. 10, 2023. The aircraft was conducting routine training when the crash occurred. The 'NG Worker', equipped with the U.S. Navy Supervisor of Salvage and Diving team, is set to depart to the crash location from Augusta Bay, Sicily, in the coming days and was berthed in Augusta as of Dec 4. Once on station, salvage experts will deploy a shallow water intermediate search system (SWISS) and towed pinger locator (TPL) to search for the aircraft. The recovery of the aircraft will take place using the Deep Drone remote operated vehicle (ROV). Seabed Worker raised wreck of sunken fishing vessel
In the afternoon of Apr 19, 2015, the 35-ft-f/v "Stortinn Junior" which was wrecked off Røst on Apr 6 was raised from a depth of 61 meters by the "Seabed Worker". At 3 p.m. it was lifted on board the ship. The body of skipper who had been missing since the accident was found in the wreckage. The deceased was to be transported to Bodø for identification and an autopsy.The "Seabed Worker" started on Apr 16 in the afternoon its effort to recover the "Stortinn Jr.". In the morning of Apr 10 the "Stortinn Jr." was located on the bottom. Crime technicians of the police will carry out a technical examination of the boat along with personnel from the State's casualty commission. One man had survived the shipwreck. The 19-year-old grandson of the deceased sat on the bow of the boat when a rescue boat arrived.
