Grounding off Mariupol

Wed May 21 10:12:47 CEST 2014 Timsen

The "Ulus Prime" ran aground in the Azov Sea early in the morning of May 20, 2014, in position 46 45N 037 35E, 20 nautical miles SSE of Mariupol port, odin.tc reports. The grounding was caused by a navigational error. The draft loss was 35 centimeters, no damages, no spill reported. The vessel with 2280 tons of steel on board was en route from Istanbul to Baku in the Caspian sea. Efforts to refloat the ship by own means and later with tug help failed due to the falling water level. The vessel now was awaiting the weather to improve and the sea level to rise.
