Dredger grounded at Rincollio Beach

Fri Dec 11 09:27:31 CET 2015 Timsen

On Dec 9, 2015, at 10 a.m. the "Neptun Khan" was pushed aground by the currents and winds on Rincollio Beach by wind and sea after one of her engines failed. The hopper dredger was coming from Isla Verde without cargo at that time and ended in the Botavara zone a few meters from the shore at Cabo Lastre. The barge "Ceuta Mar" and the "Salvamar Dubhe" were dispatched by the port captain of Algericas and the Port Authority APBA to monitor the site in case of pullution. The "Ceuta Mar" also removed sand seawards of the casualty with its propellers to allow the dredger to return to sea smoothly. As the "Neptun Khan" was equipped with internal fuel tanks above the water line the risk of a fuel spill was ruled out. Tugs were ready to assist once the water level was high enought which was expected around 1 p.m. The dredger, however, refloated three hours later with the rising tide with own means and proceeded to Campamento. The ship was working on the expansion of the San Roque dam off IslaVerde and Campamento at that time.
