Barge suffered three holes in the bow

Tue Aug 28 19:14:44 CEST 2018 Timsen

In the morning work started to drain contaminated water from the cargo hold of the "Nawatrans II". Then a part of the cargo was removed. Three holes were found in the foreship which had caused the water ingress. It was unclear from what they originated. The holes were patched and the trim of the ship was changed to aft. Also the ship was listed and will be controlled regarding possible further changes. On Aug 29 divers investigated the hull. The ship then sailed and berthed in Elsfleth on Aug 31. Ship to be pumped out

Mon Aug 27 19:06:27 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Nawatrans 2" was still resting on the bottom of the Coast Canal in Oldenburg on Aug 27. In the morning of Aug 28 dewatering was due to start to find out how the water ingress occurred. Next the ship was to be stabilized by re-distribution of the cargo. If the ship can be refloated by this measure it will be inspected again in order to find out if it may continue the voyage to Nordenham. Traffic on the canal was not affected. Barge suffered water ingress in Oldenburg

Sun Aug 26 16:44:14 CEST 2018 Timsen

On Aug 25, 2018, the "Nawatrans 2", 1498 ts (EU-No.: 04028600), being loaded with shredded lead batteries from cars, suffered water ingress in the cargo hold on the Coast Canal in Oldenburg. Just after 10 p.m., a Polish crew member noticed the water in one of the holds. The ship settled on the canal bottom which was about three meters deep. Over 30 forces of the fire brigade, police and the canal authority attended. During the night, divers examined the condition of the ship into which more than 150 cubic meters weaters had leaked until midnight. The danger of a possible contamination had to be clarified. At midnight it had become clear that apparently the bottom onto which the vessel was resting had been breached.
