Tanker rescued six castaways

A Man Overboard (MOB) incident occurred in the waters of Tanjung Balai Karimun on the morning of Jan 6, 2025, resulting in six people being rescued while three others remained missing. The incident was first reported by the 'Navig8 Guard', en route from Singapore too Pengerang, at 07:26 a.m. LT. According to information received by RCC Basarnasthrough the Tanjung Balai Karimun Shore Radio Station (SROP), six individuals were spotted adrift in pos. 01-06.83 N 103-31.88 E. The VTS Batam issued a Notice to Mariners (NTM) at 08:36 a.m. to alert vessels in the vicinity of the incident. By 09:0 a.m. the tanker crew confirmed that six victims had been successfully rescued and were on board the ship. The Tanjung Balai Karimun patrol vessel 'KNP 352' and a Class V vessel from the Sea and Coast Guard Base (PLP) were dispatched to the scene to assist with the evacuation. At 10:58 a.m. the rescued people were transferred onto the 'Kri Siwar 646' of Indonesian Navy and taken to the Naval Base in Tanjung Balai Karimun (LANAL TBK). They received medical treatment at the Lanal TBK Health Unit. Meanwhile, the search for the three missing people continued with the involvement of various assets, including the KRI 'Alamang 644', SAR speedboats, and the 'KNP 352'. The VTS Batam issued another Notice to Mariners at 2:29 p.m. to ensure the awareness of passing vessels in the search area.
