Drunk captain arrested

Mon Apr 03 19:30:22 CEST 2017 Timsen

Coming from Liepaja, the "Naos" was on its way into the port of Åhus on March 31, 2017, at 9 p.m. when the captain was suspected of being drunk. The pilot of the Swedish Maritime Administration became suspicious wthat something was not quite right. He ordered the ship to anchor and called the Swedish Coastguard which attended with the patrol boat "KBV 003". After a positive breath test was conducted, the captain was taken to the hospital in Kristianstad for a blood test to ensure the alcohol concentration was over the limit with more than one per thousand alcohol in the blood. He was arrested by prosecutors. The ship entered port and berthed at the Aahus Container Terminal on Apr 1 at 2.45 p.m. The Coast Guard was investigating the matter and detention hearings were to be held before April 4. The captain may be punished with up to two years in prison.
