Repairs of allision damage completed

Fri Apr 13 13:51:58 CEST 2018 Timsen

After repairs the "Spica" sailed again from Las Palmas on Apr 12 at 7.30 p.m. and berthed at the TCT Terminal de Contenedores de Tenerife in Santa Cruz the same evening at 11.30 p.m.

Container ship breached by drifting oil rig

Thu Mar 01 18:31:33 CET 2018 Timsen

In the night of Feb 28, 2018, at 11.50 p.m. the "Spica" and the rig "West Eminence" were hit by the "West Taurus" in the port of Tenerife after the rig broke lose from its mooring due to the strong wind during the passage of the storm Emma. The oil platform which was moored in the Eastern Basin went adrift after a bollard broke out and breached the "Spica" which was berthed at the TCT Terminal de Contenedores de Tenerife since Feb 28, having arrived from Las Palmas, and which suffered severe water ingress, cuasing a water level of three meters inside the cargo hold. Seven bilge pumps were supplied from the ships of Salvamento Maritimó, the Civil Guard, the fire brigade and the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Divers of the Servicios Marinos del Atlántico welded the breach which had a length of about 0,4 meters in the hull of the ship underneath the waterline which could be patched at 5:30 a.m. on March 1, thus stabilizing the situation. No oil spill was reported. The oil rig could be moored at the TCT Terminal de Contenedores too. The "Spica" sailed from the port on March 9 and was docked at the Astican Shipyard in Las Palmas for repairs on March 10 at 5.15 a.m. On Apr 12 the ship shifted to the TCT Terminal de Contenedores de Tenerife in Santa Cruz.
