The "Nicea" was arrested at Parlatorio Wharf at Malta Shipyards after it had entered Maltese territorial waters for bunkering on Mar 5, 2010. After the ship owners were informed of this warrant, communications with them was lost. Transport Malta directed the vessel towards the Grand Harbour, provided a safe berth and addressed crew requirements for provisions and supplies. The vessel was also supplied with fresh water and shoreside power supply. Before, the nine crew members had written messages for help on sheets and hung them over the side of the vessel on Mar 23. The banners were removed after basic supplies were provided by Transport Malta to the crew, including fresh water, power supply and other provisions. ITF was contacted on March 19 and it was doing its utmost to get the crew members paid and repatriated. The workers have not been paid since September. ITF is in touch with the Turkish owners and liaising with the unions in Turkey to try to reach a resolution.
