Russian mine damaged cargo ship off Danube
A Russian sea mine exploded at the stern of the 'Vyssos' off the Bystre Mouth of the Danube Delta on De 27, 2023, at around 05.45 a.m., while the ship was proceeding to Izmail to load a cargo of grain with 18 crew members on board. The blast was so strong that the ship’s stern was lifted out of the water, and it suffered a blackout with a complete power loss. A fire broke out on the upper deck. The ship was intentionally grounded at a nearby breakwater to avoid sinking. The Egyptian cook fell, and he was seriously injured at the head and had to be taken to hospital in Izmail. Also the captain was injured. The rest of the crew, includig three Ukrainians, two Turks and 13 Egyptians, were not injured.
