Bulkcarrier sank off Oman
The 20 crew members of the "Reef Elaf" - 14 Pakistanis, four Indians and two Somali nationals - were rescued by two fisherboats after their ship was caught in a storm, suffered water ingress sank on Sep 2, 2017, just before the port of Al-Labki in Wilayat Jazir while sailing from Sharjah to Eritrea. The ship was carrying sand and iron. The castaways were handed over to the Jazir police station and taken to the Al Jazir Hospital for checks. They were found in good health. The local agent in the Sultanate was contacted to complete their deportation procedures. The "Reef Elaf" went down by the bow six to nine miles from Al Lakbi. She had come from Hamriya and sailed to Fujairah as it needed some repair work. From Fujairah, the ship came to Muscat before proceeding to Al-Lakbi.
