Oil spill after hull cracked

Tue Jan 26 13:11:39 CET 2021 Timsen

An oil spill has been discovered from the grounded 'Minh Nam 07' on Jan 25. Based on the initial assessment, the remaining oil on board leaked after the hull cracked in half and sustained more damage, due to a tidal surge. The oil spill seen around the hull was about 100 metres long. The local authorities have coordinated with all relevant agencies and the owner of the vessel to control the leak from spreading further. The vessel ran aground in pos. 8°11,89' N 106°16,439' E on Oct 10, 2020, near Ky Anh town. The unloaded ship was enroute from Vung Tau to Quang Ninh in Northeast Vietnam. All 16 crew members were rescued by local fishermen. The ship was tilted about 15 degrees to starboard side and was stuck about 200 metres from the shore. The Port Authority of Ha Tinh coordinated the border forces and the local government to provide assistance to the vessel.
