Captain found dead, three men still missing
When the "Erol Senkaya" capsized 10 miles off Zakynthos on May 19, 2012, the captain was killed while three of the nine other crew members were missing. All crew members were Turkish. The ship, with olive pits on board, was en route to Zakynthos when it capsized. According to the Greek coastguard the weather conditions were good. Rescue forces found the body of the captain, and six crew members were rescued alive. Five ships were searching for the missing. The ship has 11 tons of oil on board and was still drifting bottom up. Sank in Ionian sea
General cargo vessel Erol Senkaya sank early in the morning May 19 2012 between the island Zakynthos and mainland, Greece, presumably due to cargo shift. Vessel was loaded with 2200 tons of olive seeds. 6 crew are rescued by Greece Coast Guard boat, 4 crew went missing, search is under way. No pollution reported yet.
