Dismasted multihull towed to Saint Pierre
On July 25, 2016, the "Sail Oman" was towed to the port of Saint-Pierre. The operation was coordinated by Philippe Paturel, in collaboration with the SNSM and a llocal sailing school. During the Transat Race Quebec - Saint-Malo, the "Oman Sail" had capsized on July 17. After the capsize, the crew was recovered by a cargo ship and repatriated to Canada. A few hours after the accident, Philippe Paturel was mandated by the owners to bring the ship back to port. Immediately, he started looking for a ship that could recover the "Oman Sail" and engaged the "Maersk Cutter" with the task. The salvage operation started at 7:50 a.m. a short distance from the Grand Colombier after the tug from St. Johns had taken in tow the boat on July 24. The SNSM took over despite the fog in favourable conditions with calm sea. Within two hours the "Oman Sail" was in port.
