Tanker detained for unauthorized anchoring

Mon Jan 06 12:28:00 CET 2020 Timsen

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained the 'Ocean Gull' along with 20 crew members off Penang on Jan 5, 2020. The MMEA claimed that the tanker was found to have been anchored in Malaysian waters without notifying the Marine Department or through a third-party agent as requested. If found guilty, the operator of the ship could be fined RM100k ($24.3k) fine or face a jail term of two years.
