Tanker 18 Heaven seized for Illegal petrol transfer off Kota Tinggi

Wed Feb 15 09:38:57 CET 2012 arnekiel

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) South Region has seized two foreign ships believed to have attempted to illegally transfer 130,000 litres of petrol off the Pengerang waters in Kota Tinggi here on Sunday. Maritime 7 district enforcement chief Capt Rozali Mohamed Said said, in the 2.55am incident, an MMEA speedboat intercepted the ships at 2.5 nautical miles south of Tanjung Stapa. At the time, the vessels were suspiciously positioned close to one another. "Upon inspection, crew members of the MT Urban Lima were in the midst of transferring 130,000 litres of petrol to the other ship, MT 18 Heaven. "It was also found that the crew had already transferred 56,741 litres to the other ship," he said in a statement here today. Razali said the captains of both ships failed to produce any permit from the Malaysian Marine director-general to carry out the transfer. According to him, the MT Urban Lima was registered in Sierra Leone while the MT 18 Heaven, in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
