Man fell over board and died
On Feb 14, 2024, an American passenger, aged 72, lost his life after falling off the 'MSC World Europa' in Valletta’s Grand Harbour in Malta, moments before its scheduled departure. Immediate efforts to rescue the man were launched, and a security VHF message was quickly issued, alerting the Armed Forces of Malta and the Civil Protection Department. The man was swiftly recovered by a life raft from the vessel, as reported by the Pilot Boat 'Foxtrot' at 4:33 p.m. The report noted the man appeared to be unconscious. The victim was transported to the hospital by 5:12 p.m. Despite rapid medical intervention and his urgent transportation to Mater Dei Hospital, the man was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The incident has led to an official inquiry by Magistrate Charmaine Galea, with police investigations currently underway to determine the details of the event. Medevac off Toulon
A passenger of the 'MSC World Europa' fell ill and had to be medevaced off the coast of Toulon in the evening of Dec 17, 2023, while the ship was en route from Genova to Civitavecchia. Under the coordination of the CROSS Med, the patient was hoisted by a Dauphin helicopter of the French Navy. He was transported to the Sainte-Anne hospital in Toulon for further medical care.
