Container ship stuck off Terneuzen
The "MSC Rachele" ran aground on the Middle Plate near the village Grietje on the Wester Scheldt off Terneuzen on Dec 12, 2014, at 2.25 p.m.. The tugs "Braakman", "Evergem", "Gent", "Multratug 20", "Multratug 22", "Multratug 26", "Multratug 27", "Union 5" and "Union Emerald" were called to refloat the vessel. It was pulled off the sand bar stern first at 4.05 p.m. and towed to an anchorage at the Put of Terneuzen for inspection. The tugs "Evergem", "Union Emerald" and "Union Hawk" were still keeping the ship in Position there. Ship traffic towards Antwerp was barred while the vessel was stuck until 5 p.m. The container ship was coming from Valencia and enroute to Antwerp.
