Formic acid leaked from container
Formic acid leaked from one of the containers carried by the "HSL Porto" at Leixoes in the afternoon of Nov 5, 2018. It was unclear if the spill occurred on board of the ship, or after the container was offloaded. Formic acid is known to be very toxic and water soluble, with irritating odor. Officials said there was no risk of contamination. Emergency and firefighting teams cleaned the area, no injures were reported. The ship had arrived at the Leixoes Container Terminal South at 8.40 a.m., coming from Algeciras.
