Container ship was disabled and adrift
The 'MSC Kim' was disabled due to an engine failure in Gulf of St. Lawrence en route from Halifax to Montreal in position 48 17.25 N, long 062 31.947 W, about 66 nautical miles east of Percé, Quebec, on March 7, 2022, at 12.45 a.m. EST. As of March 10, she was still adrift about 50 nautical miles off Port au Port. The vessel owners have hired a tug from Stephenville, and the CCGS 'Terry Fox' was in the area to conduct a harbour breakout and help the tug out of Stephenville Harbour. The Coast Guard was working with the owner to develop a salvage plan for the vessel. The 'MSC Kim' docked in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on March 12 at midnight.
