Cocaine found hidden in banana container

Tue Apr 21 11:27:04 CEST 2020 Timsen

Customs Surveillance Agents have discovered drugs on the 'MSC Jenny'. The Police seized an important cache of cocaine hidden inside the ship that docked atthe Noatum Container Terminal in the port of Bilbao on April 19, 2020. Apparently the drug was hidden in a refrigerator container with bananas. Customs Surveillance Agents located the illegal cargo, which could be hidden without the knowledge of sellers or buyers. At the moment it was unknown if there have been arrests, as well as the total amount of cocaine seized.

Recommendation to put container ship under quarantine in Bilbao

Wed Apr 01 12:11:45 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'MSC Jenny' left from Gijón on March 30, 2020. A case of coronavirus was detected days ago among the crew. The ship has not received authorization to enter the port of Bilbao until a visit of the Foreign Health to verify that there were no health risks. Until then, it remained in the vicinity of the Punta Lucero area. The patient apparently traveled in seclusion on the ship, without complying with the protocol that establishes 15 days of quarantine to avoid contagions with the rest of the crew, consisting of about 20 sailors of different nationalities, mostly Indians. It was not until after the ship docked in Gijón that its disinfection had been ordered. The vessel berthed at the Noatum Container Terminal/A1,A2 Dock in Bilbao on March 31, 2020, at 6.30 p.m. It was recommended to quarantine the vessel since the disinfection carried out did not exempt the mandatory 15 days of isolation. Almost all the crew have had direct contact with the patient. The result of the tests carried out will not be known until several days have passed. The Port of Bilbao sent a recommendation to the Basque Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
