Medevac off San Diego
A man with a severely injured hand was evacuated from the "Caroline Maersk" off San Diego ni the morning of June 21, 2014, by a boat crew from the U.S. Coast Guard Station San Diego. The vessel had contacted the Coast Guard on June 20 evening to request a medical evacuation. A 52-year-old Filipino man had injured his hand during a drill. The ship was about 340 miles southwest of San Diego at that time, but headed closer to shore during the night. A 45-foot Coast Guard Response Boat from Station San Diego met the ship five miles off the coast the following morning and transported the man to San Diego for emergency medical treatment at about 6:30 a.m.
