Grounding in Suez Canal

Mon Apr 20 09:41:23 CEST 2015 Timsen

The "Susan Maersk", while enroute from Tanjung Pelepas tu Barcelona, ran aground in the Suez Canal in dense mist on Apr 18, 2015, in the morning, delaying traffic through a vital global trade route for several hours. The ship sustained no damage or casualties when it ran onto a sand bank while heading north. The vessel remained seaworthy and was waiting to be pulled off the sand.

Chemical leak under control

Thu Apr 05 11:13:03 CEST 2012 Timsen

A minor toxic chemical leak from the "Susan Maersk" at Yangshan Deep-water Port has been controlled while no pollution has harmed the waters, following three days of emergency response and cleanup work. The furfuryl alcohol leak from the "Susan Maersk" was reported shortly before 9 pm on Apr 1, 2012. The leak occurred at a rate of 1 to 2 drops per minute. It only affected the docks. Cleanup work resumed on the docks after the container ship was removed on Apr 3, after which final checks and monitoring of the situation showed that safety risks had been removed. The cause of the leak is still under investigation.
