Engine trouble in Kiel Canal

Mon Sep 17 18:07:23 CEST 2012 Timsen

Enroute Teesborg via Bremerhaven to Kaliningrad the "Hanse Courage" suffered engine damage after having passed the Brunsbuettel locks of the Kiel Canal eastbound on Sep 16 at 10.45 a.m. The ship was still able to reach Fischerhütte, where tugs were ordered, and it was taken in tow by the "Bugsier 15" of the company Bugsier around 5 p.m. and proceeded towards Kiel. When having reached Oldenbuettel, the engine problems occurred again, and the "Bugsier 11" was called too. The ship was then pulled to the communal harbour of Rendsburg where it was berthed on Sep 17 at 1.30 a.m. for repairs. After the damage was fixed, the ship resumed its voyage at 5.15 p.m. the same day, being assisted also by the tug "Wolf" on its further way to Kiel-Holtenau, where the ship entered the lock at 7.45 p.m. before proceeding into the Baltic Sea.

On Oct 29, 2011, at 2.45 a.m. the "Hanse Courage" allided with the gate of New Northern Lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbuettel. The unloaded ship had already entered the old lock being bound from Bremerhaven to Kaliningrad but had to return into the canal due to allisions of the "Heinrich Ehler" and "Nordgard" with the middle tail of the lock before. The "Hanse Courage" caused considerable damaged to the North Gate and was only allowed to resume its voyage around 5.30 a.m.
