One crew member lost over board, one injured
The "Cape Mayor" issued a distress signal on Dec 31, 2015, at 5.28 p.m., reporting one crew member having been injured and one lost overboard 40 miles north of Ouessant in the English Channel in stormy weather. Following a conference call with the Maritime Medical Consultation Centre (MMCC) in Toulouse and the Mecical Maritime Coordination in Finistère, the decision was taken to medevac the wounded by helicopter to the hospital Cavale Blanche in Brest. The 42-year old Russian sailor was airlifted by a helicopter from the Lanvéoc Naval base in Lorient at 8.50 p.m. and delivered in Brest at 10 p.m. The lost sailor was spotted at 8.25 p.m. by the "Cape Mayor" and hoisted on board of a helicopter but was pronounced dead at 9.35 p.m. The vessel was en route from Rotterdam to Tanger.
