Cargo ship grounded in Constanta
On Mar 5, 2017, at 10.50 a.m. the "Caledonia" ran aground in Constanta while she maneuvered away from berth 35-36 where she had loaded 10.678 tonnes of laminates. The ship got stuck with the bow right within the port basin next to the berths RO4 / Ro5 and 39, close to the Farul Carol lighthouse and the historic building "Cuibul Reginei”. Following the incident, an inspection was carried out at the hull which lasted about a hour. At 9.30 p.m. work began to unload a quantity of up to 1,000 tonnes of the cargo to lighten the ship and get it refloated with three tugs before it was taken to a safe berth to be loaded again and leave safely. The ship had come into port on Mar 2 and left Constanta on Mar 7 at 9.15 p.m. bound to Veracruz, ETA Mar 31.
