Stern of wreck raised

In the evening of May 12 the stern section of the "Nawa 9" was raised by two sheerlegs at the Northern Elbe Bridge in Hamburg. The ship had broken in two on Apr 25 and sunk. The police launch "WSP 37" secured the operation. The section, once above the water, was placed onto a pontoon to be transported off. Barge broke in two in Hamburg

In the midday hours of Apr 25, 2017, the "Nawa 9", 920 ts (EU-No.: 08348096), broke in two during loading with iron silicate at the Norder Elbe Bridge in Hamburg. The crew of three saved themselves by jumping over board. The ship sank with only part of the wheelhouse and the foreship sticking out of the water. The fire brigade was on scene and boomed off the sinking site to prevent oil spills. The river was timewise barred for ship traffic.
