Slag carrier in danger of sinking
The "Izabel" which was loaded with 500 tons slag was in danger of sinking on the Rhine-Herne Canal at canal-km 7 in Oberhausen on Nov 24, 2013. The fire department was alerted and was able to stabilize the vessel by strong submersible pumps after already 80-100 cbm water had flooded the foreship. The leak was discovered by the crew during loading operations. The Polish crew alerted employees of the local freight company who in turn called the fire rescue which responded with a fire truck and special vehicles. At this time the bow was almost submerged. A diver was requested to patch the ship. The fire department remained on scene until the night fell.
