Cargo ship lost man over board
The MRCC Colombo received a a distress signal from the 'MPV Thalia', en route from Damman to Sungai Pakning in the vicinity of pos. 05 58 54 N, 089 08 06 E in Bay of Bengal on Jan 24, 2024. The vessel reported a man overboard. It turned about and headed on a reverse course in a westerly direction towards Sri Lanka.
ZEABORN Group purchases five heavy-lift cargo vessels from Rickmers Holding
On 31 July 2017, the ZEABORN Group signed the contracts for the purchase of five 30,000dwt Superflex Heavy Lift vessels. All of these vessels are sister ships of the Rickmers Hamburg, which was previously acquired, and are employed in the Rickmers-Line liner service. ZEABORN already acquired the Rickmers-Line in April this year. The parties involved have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. More specifically, the transaction relates to the following vessels: Rickmers SINGAPORE, Rickmers JAKARTA, Rickmers NEW ORLEANS, Rickmers SEOUL and Rickmers DALIAN. These vessels have a deadweight all told (DWAT) of 30,000 mt, each with four cranes, having a combined lifting capacity of 640 tons, and are equipped with intermediate decks for optimisable loading capacities. While the title to the vessels will pass to ZEABORN by the end of September, they are already available to the shipping company without any restrictions.
Dockworker died in ships hold in port of Philadelphia
A longshoreman fell to his death in a breakbulk ship Saturday in the second fatal accident in eight days on the Philadelphia waterfront. Vernon Knight, 54, a member of International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1291, fell from a tween deck into a ship’s hold, said Robert Palaima, president of Delaware River Stevedores. The ship, the Rickmers New Orleans, was handling project cargo at Tioga Marine Terminal. Palaima said the accident is under investigation.
