Two dead and one injured by crashing container
A container of the "Moning Viship" crashed down at the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) area in Male in the evening of Apr 7, 2014, killing two people and injuring a third; all of them MPL workers. The injured man was treated at the state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), his condition was not serious. The container had crashed when the vessel's container crane's wire broke while the container was being loaded onto the "Morning Viship". The ship had come from Cochin with goods on Apr 6. One man died instantly whilst the other man passed away whilst he was being treated at IGMH. Both had suffered several fractures. The crane operator of the ship fainted and did not regain consciousness for several hours. He had to be retrieved from his seat in the crane's operation pit and was taken to ADK Hospital. The crane operator had often raised issues regarding the worn condition of the container cranes.
