Morning Star to be sold, crew to be paid
The "Morning Star” which was being detained in Kochi since July 2012, is to be sold and the crew that had been left stranded in India has been given permission to return to the Maldives. The "Morning Star" was detained after an Indian environmental authority launched a probe into the incident where another Maldivian vessel, the "Sea Angel", sank near Kannanur region as it was being towed by the "Morning Star". An Indian court had ruled to sell the ship and settle the case. With the court’s verdict the Maldivian crew can now return to Maldives. But they are waiting until the ship is sold and their salaries have been paid. An Indian labor union has been attending to the affairs of the crew. The court had ruled to sell the "Morning Star" for 165,000 US Dollar.
