Salvage of lost platform has commenced
While the "Monte Da Luz" berthed in the port of Málaga on May 7, the same day the salvage of the production platform "Agronauta" ((IMO-No.: 0057048), which had parted from the tug and stranded on the coast of Benalmádena on April 28, have begun in the morning by the company that owns the barge, Ferrovial, and with the advice and surveillance with the advice and surveillance of the Maritime Captaincy and Maritime Rescue. They brought in powerful tug of 240 tons pulling force. They planned to take advantage of the high tide at 2 p.m. to refloat the structure. The next phase would be to tow the platform one mile offshore for inspection by a group of divers who will determine its status. If it was in good condition it would be taken to Cadiz, otherwise it would have to look for a nearby port, predictably Málaga, for repairs. Tug lost construction platform
The construction platform "Agronauta" ran aground a few meters from Benalnatura beach in the surroundings of Torrequebrada, at the height of Sunset Beach (Benalmádena), after it broke lose from the tug "Monte Da Luz" on Apr 28, 2017, off the coast of Benalmadena enroute to Cadiz, coming from Cartagena. Storm on the coast of Málaga, with waves of up to four meters and 6 to 7 force winds split the hook with the platform at 11.36 a.m. It went adrift, and efforts to control this platform have been unsuccessful, despite having the help of the tug "Vehintiocho", based in the port of Málaga which assisted since 10 a.m., and the "Salvamar Alnitak" of Salvamento Marítimo which also rushed from Malaga. Two times they tried to secure the emergency trailer of the barge, however, the towing line was entangled in the platform itself, which together with the meteorological conditions prevented the salvage maneuver which was coordinated by the MRCC in Tarifa. At 2.18 p.m. the barge drifted onto the beach. Salvamento Marítimo also dispatched the "Luz de Mar" which arrived at 5 p.m. to monitor the situation. The Civil Guard closed the area for the public. A salvage attempt may take place next week at the earliest. The "Agronauta" is a structure with 20 meters height, 43 meters of length, 32 meters width and two meters draught. She is usually used for the manufacture of cement blocks to carry out works at sea. In addition, it has a tank with 150 liters of fuel for its own consumption but no means of propulsion.
