Nimmrich & Prahm fined for oil dumping

Sat Nov 03 11:07:40 CET 2012 Timsen

Two German shipping companies have admitted dumping oil illegally at sea and concealing it from the Coast Guard. The Nimmrich & Prahm shipping company and its holding company entered their guilty pleas in federal court in Houston on Nov 2, 2012. Under a plea agreement, they will pay a $1.2 million criminal penalty, $200,000 of which will go to the National Marine Sanctuaries Fund. As a condition of probation, the companies' cargo vessels will be barred from U.S. ports and waters for five years. The crew of the "Susan K", today the "Sonja", dumped oily bilge waste water at sea repeatedly from at least August 2011 to March 4 and lied about it to the Coast Guard.
